Santorini (Σαντορίνη) is one of the most beautiful islands in the Cyclades group in the Aegean Sea, south of the mainland of Greece and west of Turkey, with a territory of 96 square kilometers and approximately 14,000 residents. It has a volcanic origin, meaning that its specific form originated from eruption of a volcano about 3500 years ago. Climate is temperate Mediterranean. Rain falls in winter while during the summer there are no rainy days. June is the hottest month with an average temperature of 26 ° C, and the coldest is January with an average temperature of 12 ° C.

Fira is the capital, located on the edge of a cliff 260 meters high. From here you will have one of the best views on the island. Fira is a city full of small whitewashed houses of traditional architecture and stepped streets filled with shops, restaurants and cafes. Here one can find many cultural monuments such as the Archaeological Museum, Folk Museum, and there are numerous churches and monasteries.

Oia is located 10 km north of Fire and it is one of the most photographed villages in the world. It is recognizable for its picturesque architecture and sunset.

Known place where tourists gather to watch the sunset is Kastel Agois Nikoloas. Imerovigli is a picturesque town located in the north.

Imerovigli name comes from the word “vigla”, which means view – and accordingly the city has one of the best views on the island. In front of Imerovigli there is enormous cliff Scaros, and at its top there is a castle that was built during the XIII century, which today houses the island’s administration.

In the south of the island, near the village Akortiri you can find Red Beach – a spectacular beach with red sand and stone but you can access it only on foot, and White Beach – known for its high white cliffs which can be reached by boat or on foot. Both beaches are not suitable for families with children because of the rocky beach and deep water.

Perissa and Perivolos are two beaches close to Kamari. Sand, gravel and crystal blue sea make them most popular on Santorini. The beaches offer all kinds of entertainment such as bars, taverns and sports facilities. Eros beach in Perivolos is a very good beach with plenty of space, and the water is crystal clear.

There is also a beautiful bar-restaurant with exotic style. You should definitely visit the archaeological site of ancient Tyre. In addition to the unique historical remains from Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine times, Tyre offers an incredible view over the eastern coast of island. Visit the open-air cinema which is located at the entrance of Kamari. It is open from June to the first days of October. Films are broadcast in English with the Greek translation.

Local products of Santorini are famous all over the world with its intense and distinctive aroma, such as white eggplant, with a unique sweet taste and meletinia – small pies, such as cakes, filled with cream cheese mizitra. However the most famous local product is cherry tomato – delicious, juicy, aromatic, a taste that will simply impress you.
